Background to the Project

The closure of Portals Mill in Overton in 2022 has prompted recording its legacy on Overton. This project focusses on the 100 years since Overton Mill was built in 1922.

Scope

To record the history of Portals and its impact on Overton through the recollections of those who worked at the Mill, occupied Portals properties, worked on the estate, ran businesses serving Portals employees and their families and the wider social aspects of Portals clubs and activities.

Project Aims

To gather memories of Portals and the impact of Overton Mill on the local community.

To record the history of the paper making business over the past 100 years.
